Brown-Forman to launch new TR-exclusive Jack Daniel’s in Cannes

By Wendy Morley

Jack Daniel's Bottled in Bond GTR-exclusive celebrates the 120th anniversary of the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897

After much anticipation in recent months, Brown-Forman Global Travel Retail will unveil its 100-proof Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond Tennessee Whiskey next week during the 2017 TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

Jack Daniel’s Bottled in Bond will be a permanent line extension in the Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands available in major airports and other international points of departure and arrival around the world.

This launch comes on the 120th anniversary of the United States Congress passing the Bottled In Bond Act in 1897 – an act that ensures American whiskey is made to certain standards as a consumer-protective measure.

Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Jeff Arnett said the new Bottled In Bond is a tribute to the transformative era of American whiskey making in the late-1890s when Jack Daniel’s began bottling his Tennessee whiskey. “Whiskey-making in the 1800s too often produced a hodgepodge of sub-par, counterfeit and even dangerous spirits. Whiskey drinkers at times weren’t sure of what exactly they were drinking or being served. To bring a high level of safety and consistency to American whiskies, the United States Congress passed the Bottled In Bond Act, which certified the quality of whiskey carrying that designation. It had to be aged at least four years and bottled at 100 proof at one distillery during a single season. The Bottled In Bond Act was passed in 1897. Mr. Jack began putting his Tennessee Whiskey in the now-familiar square bottle in two years earlier in 1895,” Arnett said.

“One of Jack Daniel’s most famous sayings was ‘Every day we make it, we’ll make it the best we can’ and the distillery in Lynchburg has been making the iconic Tennessee whiskey that way every day for over 150 years,” said Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Brown-Forman Global Travel Retail, Marshall Farrer. “In many ways, the introduction of Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond is a step back into the early days of the distillery when Jack Daniel’s was pioneering the craft of making Tennessee Whiskey. We think so much of this whiskey that we are making it a permanent member of the Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands - a cautious step we take only with the most special of new products.”

In her first visit to TFWA WE, Lynne Tolley, the great-grandniece of Jack Daniel and a legendary fixture at the Jack Daniel’s Distillery since 1980, will be hosting tastings of Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond in Cannes on the Brown-Forman stand (Beach Village – B03) and sharing stories and anecdotes about her illustrious kin and life in Lynchburg, Tennessee – the source of every drop of Jack Daniel’s in the world.

Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond will begin shipping in the summer of 2018.
