According to CADF/MAC Managing Director Nadia Rashad, souvenirs are just one of the many items that sell well for the company

CADF to open first of seven new stores in Cairo International Airport’s T3

In an exclusive interview with Gulf-Africa Duty Free, Cairo Airport Duty Free (CADF)/MAC Managing Director Nadia Rashad confirmed that the company is currently completing work on the first of seven stores slated to open in Cairo International Airport’s Terminal 3. The stores will be built according to the company’s new design concept. The first two are scheduled to open by mid-July, with the other five reaching completion two weeks later.

“We’re currently recruiting new staff for the stores and, as always, we’re continuing to promote the best elements of our existing team as a means of providing unmatched customer service,” says Rashad. “After the openings, we’ll be engaging in a gradual renovation of our stores in Terminal 1 according to our new design concept as a means of creating a homogeneous image across all of our stores in the airport.

“As far as products are concerned, we’re seeing perfumes, cigarettes, confectionery, Egyptian souvenirs and gifts performing particularly well,” says Rashad. “With regard to brands, we’re noticing strong sales of Dior, Chanel, YSL, Givenchy, Marlboro, Nestlé, Mars and Montblanc.”

While last year’s numbers were down by 19% due to the economic downturn and the transfer of Egyptair flights from T1 to T3 (representing about 60% of T1’s traffic), CADF is faring much better this year. Rashad expects sales to be up 11% year-on-year by the end of 2010, and with over 30% of T3’s passengers being tourists (compared to only 5% in T1), it’s reasonable to assume that sales will continue to grow as the new T3 stores begin to open next month.
