Visitors to South Africa during 2010 experienced a special treat from multi-award-winning brand Amarula. Best known for its indulgent taste and its association with the elephants of sub-Saharan Africa who covet the ripe Marula fruit that forms the base of this delightful drink, Amarula teamed up with FIFA as an official licensed product for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Not only is Amarula affiliated officially with FIFA, but the company also released a very special limited edition bottle celebrating the popular sporting event. Amarula’s limited edition 2010 World Cup bottle features gold highlights and a picture of the unmistakable World Cup trophy.
In addition to being sold throughout South Africa, Amarula’s limited edition 2010 FIFA World Cup bottle is available in many other locations throughout the world, including at Flemingo Airport Travel Duty Free in India.
Marula trees can only be found in certain parts of sub-equatorial Africa where they grow wild and uncultivated by man. As the fruit slowly matures under the heat of the African summer, the intense bouquet floats on the breeze to attract elephants from near and far who vie with the local townsfolk for picking rights.
Fortunately there is enough to go around, and people gather in droves to collect the fallen fruit, which they then carry to the Amarula plant located in the small town of Phalaborwa in Limpopo Province. The fruit then embarks on its two-year journey of maturation before finally being selected for the distillation process.
