SMT Duty Free recently completed renovations to the liquor section of its flagship store in Puerto Rico

Caribbean cruise ship passengers continue to enjoy premium brands

In a recent interview with Americas Duty Free, Eddie Ferenczi of SMT Duty Free noted that renovations on the company’s flagship store in Puerto Rico are now complete. Work was limited to the liquor section of the store and consisted of a reorganization of various brands for the purpose of highlighting a number of subcategories.

“We’ve segregated the single malt Scotches, single barrel bourbons, cognacs and champagnes,” says Ferenczi. “This section of the store is a little more upscale, catering to fans of premium spirits.”

Additionally, the company is introducing both Camus cognacs and Camus’ range of wines. The operator previously carried predominantly American, Spanish and Australian wines, but a number of French wines will now be sold at SMT Duty Free as a result of the new partnership with Camus.

“Many of our French varietals are now being covered by Camus,” continues Ferenczi. “Furthermore, we found that there has been a gap in cognacs since Martell stepped out of North America and the Caribbean. We’re confident that Camus’ premium offerings, combined with the reorganization of the store’s liquor section, will prove very popular with our customers.”
